A PRIMARY school attended by 137 children has been rated ‘Good’ across the board in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Pupils, teachers, governors and parents at Lydbrook Primary are celebrating the rating after their first full inspection in five years.

Headteacher Simon Lusted said: “The expectations for learning have continued to rise since the last full inspection held in January 2014.”

The report praises the commitment, professionalism and dedication of senior leaders, governors and staff across the school and its team culture.

A spokesperson for the governors said they were proud that the hard work and dedication of the staff team at the school and the positive impact it had on children had been recognised.

“The inspectors found that all pupils are expected to do well in an atmosphere that is kind and caring,” added Mr Lusted.

They recognise that the governors have “a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and weaknesses and provide robust challenge as well as effective support.”

“The school’s Early Years department provides a secure start to the foundation stage where the staff provide a wide range of stimulating activities in a nurturing environment.”

The school operates a nursery for children aged two and older and works alongside the Reception class which provides “a very settled start to school life.”

The report finds that pupils’ personal development is promoted well and their well-being is a high priority in the school. Pupils also enthusiastically take responsibility for different aspects of school life, while the inspectors also reported on a curriculum that the pupils find “interesting and stimulating.”

Improvements in teaching writing and maths were noted by Ofsted, and the quality of teaching generally was good, enabling pupils to learn well.

Pupils’ behaved well across the school, says the report, although they could lose interest if the work was not challenging enough, and might not always produce their best work.
