A FESTIVE gathering set off from Coleford’s clock tower on Sunday (December 9), raising £400 for the Forest’s hospice.

The Ho Ho Hospice Walk, in aid of Great Oaks Hospice, was the first event of its kind, but is set to become an annual fixture in the town’s calendar, organisers hope.

Fundraising organiser, for the Coleford-based charity, Debbie Hutchinson, said: “Around 100 people of varying ages took part in the walk which started from Coleford Clock Tower.

“Joined by Billy the fire engine, the walkers came along in fancy dress or wearing Christmas jumpers and many brought their dogs along.

“The route took then up to Mile End, Five Acres then back to the hospice where mince pies and festive fruit punch were waiting for them.

“Santa’s elves also greeted them too and the children were able to visit Santa in his beautifully decorated Grotto where they collected a letter to write to him and post.

“It really was a perfect day and everyone really enjoyed it.

“Not only did the event raise £400 for the hospice, but it was also fantastic to get the community involved and it was fantastic exercise too,” added Debbie.

“Coleford mayor, Nick Penny, donned a rather dashing suit and also took part in the walk before coming back to judge the fancy dress categories.

“Thank you so much to everyone who took part.

“It really was a fantastic morning and we have been asked if this can become an annual event in the town,” said Debbie.

Border terrier Meg, belonging to Tania Page took the Ho Ho Walk prize for the best-dressed dog.

Amelia Addis was judged best-dressed child and John, Chris, Steph and Alyx Mills together with their dogs, won the best-dressed family.
