THE Town Hall was completely packed out for Lydney Boxing Club's first boxing showcase since 2006.
Organiser Bryan Higgs said: "It was a sell out show, absolutely fantastic. It was amazing to see the Town Hall full with local support for the local lads and girl. I could not believe the amount of people who were there. We must have had around 300 people there."
Lydney boxer Becky Preest, who was one of the first girl boxers in the Western Counties when she started out aged 15 or 16, had her first contest for 10 years against Jessica Twomey of Downend and came out as the unanimous winner.
Kieran Howells of Lydney kept his opponent Ashley Wheeler, also of Downend, at bay to come out as unanimous winner as well. Wheeler tried to pressurise Howells, but he proved too good on his feet.
Matt Webb of Lydney was unlucky against Tudorville's Max Ashdown, losing on points.
Dan Mason (Lydney) showed he has considerable potential, beating the well schooled Brodie Winstone from Malmesbury.
Afghanistan-born Ishanullah Kakar, also Lydney, boxed the exceptionally tall Jordan Thomas from Studio abc, Birmingham. Unfortunately Kakar gave his win away after having two points deducted after the referee said break.
Stefan Brown (Lydney) boxed well but lost out on a majority decision to Luke Hazard (Baker Street). A return match is booked for this coming Friday.
Superheavyweight, Andrew Rowbotham (Lydney) came up against Luke Watkins of Fitzpatricks but lost on points.
Lydney's Cory Jones had his first contest against Jack Bannister (Baker Street) a bout which brought the crowd to its feet.
The show ended with the experienced and skilful Joe Wilcox (Lydney) boxing over four two minute rounds against Tom Duff of Guernsey.
"It's becoming hard to get Wilcox matched these days," explains Higgs. "That's why we had to get Duff over from Guernsey."
