THE trials and tribulations of Brexit may be creating a huge stink across the country, but an MP’s constituency office had another smell to deal with when a sewer collapse right outside saw the main road closed.

A big hole was dug outside the Cinderford office of Forest MP Mark Harper to fix the problem, which took most of last week, bringing chaos to the town centre as drivers were forced to find an alternative route via Valley Road.

Cinderford Town Council posted the notice of the emergency road closure on its Facebook page.

A Severn Trent spokesman said last Wednesday (March 6): “Our teams are currently working to repair a damaged sewer pipe on Cinderford High Street, following reports of flooding on the road, which has been cleaned up.

“A temporary road closure has been put in place to allow our teams to carry out the repair work and return the road back to normal, as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to anyone as a result.”

Last year, the town’s high street was also shut to traffic for a week for “essential work to upgrade the sewer pipes.”
