SUNSHINE after a dry spell made the 2013 Monmouthshire Show as far different from last year's mud-bath as it is possible to get.

Organisers say the show attendance topped all previous records, with an estimated 21,000 people through the gates. Advance ticket sales were also up 50 per cent on last year.

Among the winners in the cattle section were TJ Cracknell of Newent whose holstein, Withyland Allen Katie 76, was the inter-breed dairy champion.

The show saw increases in trade stand numbers, livestock and equestrian exhibitors, dog show exhibitors and organisers were delighted to see the produce, handicraft and horticulture sections so well supported.

Chairman Mr Chris Ball said: "This year has been a far better year for agricultural shows like ours – the weather has been kind, the support from traders, local exhibitors, our members and visitors has been exceptional. We are thrilled."

Preparations are already being made for the 2014 event, which as usual will be held on the last Thursday in August.
