AFTER years of pointing visitors in the right direction, Lower Lydbrook tump committee has unveiled a signpost to help.

The man behind the new addition, committee member Michael Charlton-Hubble, said it will help visitors – and businesses – no end as they can find the nearest business or amenity.

Local artist Janice Skeates cut the ribbon to the solid oak signpost which she had designed.

Mr Charlton-Hubble said: "The tump is an area of land by the river which was donated to the village by the Vaughan family 100 years ago. The land is to be used for the benefit of the villagers but there are strict restrictions in place as to what we can do with it, such as no commercial advertising or activity.

"Therefore, as we couldn't advertise local businesses, we were finding visitors asking where amenities were so I came up with the idea of a signpost pointing people in the right direction.

"The committee wholeheartedly supported the idea and I went forward to contact businesses who helped contribute to costs – around £350 in total! Robin Morgan, from the village, made the signpost and Designer Signs in Cinderford did the sign writing.

"We wanted the sign to be in keeping with the area and I think it is. Around 20 people turned out for the unveiling, including the vice-chairman of the Forest Cllr David Thomson."
