I NOTED with interest the letter from a visitor to the area entitled 'Sign madness.'

Perhaps because of their number and complexity the writer did not also spot the fact that the authorities have also split Berry Hill into two separate locations. Should a visitor approach from the Pike cross-roads they will find that Berry Hill is to be found down the road to Bracelands along with all the Forest Enterprise camping sites. Perhaps the only benefit from this is that at least they should then see the 30 mile an hour signs as they return to the Christchurch junction, for in general most vehicles are travelling well above that speed limit and are unlikely to be able to read any of the signs at all.

If a commercial enterprise wished to desecrate the landscape with such useless and expensive signs (for which we are paying), think of the planning applications that they would have to make and never get approval. – G. Davies, Woodland Road, Christchurch.
