LYDNEY RFC is posing the following question to the area's 12-16-year-olds: What do the names Trevor Wintle, Bev Dovey, Chris Williams, Peter Kingston and Gordon Sargent all have in common?

The answer is that they have all played for Lydney and all of them have gone on to become full internationals – and the message to local youngsters is that they could all do the same.

Keen to promote junior rugby and create a pool of talent for the future at Regentsholme the club is inviting all who are interested to come along at 10.30am on Sunday, September 23.

The idea is to develop under-13, under-14, under-15 and under-16 sides, and among the trainers dedicated to this task are David Crabbe, Andy Eagles, Andy Howell, John Nelmes, Stuart Thomas and Andy Jiwett.

Overall aims are progress through excellent coaching and training and promotion within the club. A fixtures secretary will arrange suitable matches.

Lydney's younger players have an illustrious history dating back to the early 1950s.

Parents are very welcome to participate, says the club, and it also wishes to thank Ian Wilkins of Whitecross School, who has played for Lydney and England Colleges, and Martin Jenkins of Wyedean, another Lydney player, for their assistance in the scheme.
