THE SEARCH is on to find a suitable site in Chepstow for a skateboard park.

A protest group objecting to a plan to make skateboarding facilities at Piggy's Hill Park, Bulwark, say there has to be a better alternative – and they are doing the rounds of the town looking for a more suitable site.

A spokesperson told the Review: "We are not opposed to skateboarding, but we do not think this site is suitable. It does not seem to have anything going for it – in fact I've tried but I can't think of a worse place."

A protest petition has been organised and local MP Huw Edwards has visited the site.

"There is overwhelming opposition. The suggested site is a little haven of peace and quiet and that would be ruined. It is quite unsuitable – there are no toilets, and not even a telephone. We are baffled as to why anyone would want to ruin such a lovely area."

The Leisure Centre site had been suggested as an alternative as all the necessary facilities would be available there. But this has been rejected by the council.

"Now we are going to examine other areas and make suggestions to the council. We have almost wall to wall building in Chepstow but this plan wold reduce the quality of life in an important area of the town. There has to be a better alternative," said the spokesperson.
