PUPILS, teachers and staff, parents and governors are jumping with joy after Steam Mills School was given a 'good' report by Ofsted inspectors.

"This is a true indication of how our small, friendly school continues to provide quality education for our children," said head teacher Marcella Scoles.

"I am proud to be part of a fantastic team who dedicate themselves to the children and their individual needs. This has been reflected in one of the report's key findings that there is a shared sense of determination to take the school forward."

The Ofsted inspector was under inspection himself on this particular occasion, so the school feels that this was a particularly thorough review.

"Needless to say we aim to be outstanding and we have already put in place Ofsted's recommendations," said Mrs Scoles.

The report highlighted some outstanding teaching within the school. The inspector noted that children were getting off "to a flying start in the Early Years Foundation Stage" and "their attainment in English and Mathematics is significantly above average by the time they leave at the end of Year 6".

The report, which is on the Ofsted website, also said that "pupils are thoughtful, considerate and welcoming to visitors and behave well in lessons and around the school" and feel very safe.

"It's not just about academic results, it is about children being happy and reaching their full potential as individuals," added Stuart Jeffery, chair of governors.

"With a strong band of parents and well-known members of the local community in our governing body, we feel we can support the school to go from strength to strength. After all the future of our community is invested in these children, but with this sort of start, things do look bright!"
