CHINESE food takeaway boss Raymond Ho says he is 'delighted' after the man who smashed one of his shop windows wrote with an apology – and £250 to cover the damage.

The Review reported how Mr Ho was left frustrated by police action following the attack in the early hours of December 28.

After arresting the man and questioning him, police cautioned him rather than making a charge and Mr Ho had been told that if he wanted recompense he would have to pursue the matter through the county court.

Further, the police would not release the name and address of the culprit so that Mr Ho could write and ask for the cost of repairs – had he been charged, however, it was likely a court order would be made to pay the damages as happens in similar cases.

However police said in a statement they were not allowed to release names and addresses and reiterated that Mr Ho should take a civil action to recover his losses.

After receiving the letter and the money Mr Ho told the Review: "I really want to thank everyone who came into the shop and offered to help and told me not to get too worried over the matter.

"Lots of people came in specially to offer their support and some gave me practical help in dealing with the matter.

"The letter and the money were a complete surprise and I am very glad the matter has been settled in such a friendly way."
