A CHILDREN'S snowball fight during the bad weather earlier this month ended in a £300 bill and put a van out of action for a week.
The Lydney man who was driving the van has asked not to be named for fear of repercussions.
He was slowly driving to work past the Mesne at Primrose Hill on the morning of Thursday, February 5 when he was confronted by a gang of children throwing snowballs.
He said: "There had been trouble on the Mesne all day, although there were a lot of innocent people having fun there as well."
He said children had been throwing snowballs and stones at houses in the area.
"I was driving slowly past when I was bombarded with snowballs. One of them had a big stone in it and it smashed my windscreen in front of where my head was.
"I was driving slowly, but I had to brake sharply. There were three girls on the pavement on my side of the car and I couldn't see a thing. I started to skid and had to pull the handbrake up so hard the cable snapped. I hit the kerb and came to a stop just next to the girls," he said.
The snowballers ran off and escaped into the woods before the irate driver could catch them.
"What concerns me is that I could have had a serious accident and driven straight into those three girls – it could have changed my life forever."
The damage to the van put it out of action for a week and the garage bill will be around £300.
The driver added: "It was totally out of hand up there and the father of the child who caused the damage has not even offered to pay."
