A FOREST businessman has urged other employers to support apprenticeships.
Alan Wasley, of Dean Estate Agents, praised the scheme after two employees successfully completed their training.
Shaun Edmonds and Laura Byett work at the Coleford office of Dean Estate Agents and were assisted by Minsterworth-based Betaris Training.
New boy Shaun has been advising clients on properties, arranging appointments and marketing properties while Laura — who has worked for the company for 11 years — jumped at the opportunity to widen her business administration skills.
Shaun said: “Estate agents and lettings agents do a serious job and an understanding of legal issues, as well as commercial ones, helped me along the way.
“I’ve been fortunate that both my employer and Betaris Training have been more than happy to help me — as have local solicitors and relevant tradespeople which has helped me understand the whole process of buying and selling property.
“I would say to anyone who has been offered an apprenticeship to seriously consider this option and, given you have committed support from the employer, it will be a great start to any career.”
Laura said: “I absolutely relish the chance of further training and if it helps me improve my key skills, then this will only help me with my clients.”
Mr Wasley said: “Those employers who dismiss the apprenticeship route do so at their loss.
“I urge all employers, however large or small your business, to take a look at this employment route.
“It is a well-supported scheme and luckily we came across Betaris several years ago and had no hesitation in requesting their services again.
“Shaun has proven to be a great team member and has many clients thanking him for his calm, professional attitude.
“We are equally pleased with the way that both Shaun and Laura progress and look forward to next year and excelling their personal goals both in work and training.”
