THE rose bush stolen from the spot where Lydney estate agent Ben Green died has been discovered – just metres from the place it was planted.

Ben's mother Jackie Green was at the cemetery tending the flowers on her son's grave last week when she saw park keeper Tommy Wales running towards her.

She said: "I'd mentioned to Tommy about the bush a couple of weeks ago and he said he would keep an eye out for me.

"He ran towards me shouting 'I've found your rose bush'! He discovered it behind the maintenance shed which backs onto the bypass – there is about 10 or 12 ft of hedgerow and then a patch of grass between the shed and the road. It must have been thrown there by whoever pulled it up.

"I couldn't believe it – I was really pleased that I pushed the matter and mentioned it to everyone.

"The root ball was very dry but the rose has shot new leaves. It had been very sheltered and protected behind the shed, so we think all it needs is some tender loving care.

"I'm so happy to have it back, but obviously I'm disgusted that someone pulled it up in the first place.

"People keep asking me about the bush as I walk around Lydney – so many people have been concerned. The Review is great for spreading the word and I would like to say thank you to everyone for their concern. Let's hope the bush stays put this time."

The family intends to replant the rose bush on the same corner, closer to the hedge where the soil is deeper.
