A VEHICLE activated road sign has been installed near Coleford to manage traffic speeds in the area.
Residents in Staunton contacted Gloucestershire county council with their concerns about speeding traffic through the village.
The council has responded by presenting the parish council with a special road sign to display along the A4136.
The sign, known as a ‘speed indicative device,’ alerts drivers by flashing up the speed of their vehicle as it approaches.
The parish council will be able to move the sign to different locations around the village.
The sign has been funded with £2,100 from local county councillor Paul McMahon’s highways local fund.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “If a vehicle is detected to be approaching too fast, the sign will light up to warn drivers to slow down for the speed limit. It’s been great to get the sign installed for Staunton Parish Council and we’ve advised them on the best locations to place it.”
John Flynn, from Staunton Parish Council, added: “We’re pleased to have the equipment which will inform drivers of their speeds, and collect data to help us develop speed and traffic flow profiles. The profiles will help the police target prime time speed control.”
