SPEEDING vehicles on a Ross road continue to be a problem – nearly two years after cameras were introduced.
The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia says it will continue with speed enforcement on Ledbury Road in Ross to bring down average speeds.
The speed enforcement site was launched in November 2013 as
part of the partnership’s community concern programme, which responds to requests by local people for speed enforcement.
When the site launched there was a significant speeding problem on the 30mph road with 15 per cent of vehicles travelling at more than 36mph. Although speeds have reduced slightly, there is still a speed issue.
Anna Higgins, of the Safer Roads Partnership, said: “The Safer Roads Partnership is still enforcing the speed limit on Ledbury Road, in direct response to local community concern.
“Speed data is collected while sites are in operation to assess their impact upon traffic speed and driver behaviour.
“If speeds have reduced, we come out of the area. If not, we will stay there.
“In Ledbury Road, 15 per cent of drivers are still exceeding 36.1mph.
“While almost half of offenders are from the Herefordshire area, data suggests that a growing number of offenders are people living outside of the area, including Gloucestershire and Newport.”
