NORMAN invaders poured through the streets of Chepstow on Saturday (July 15) as the town celebrated the 950th anniversary of its foundation.
Work began on Chepstow Castle in 1067, the year after William the Conqueror triumphed at the Battle of Hastings and a series of events have been held alongside Chepstow Festival to remember the town’s roots.
Event organiser Ned Heywood said: “We had a big lunch in the castle with music and entertainment, a picnic for hundreds of local schoolchildren, films and inspiring academic talks. We’ve laid down a marker for 50 years time.”
