PROJECTS to reduce street lighting in Bream and Parkend are to be explained to local residents this Wednesday evening.

Part night lighting schemes have already been introduced in other areas. They can involve turning off lights between midnight and 5.30am and dimming others between 10pm and 5.30am.

The Bream meeting will be held at West Dean Centre between 6 and 7pm and at Parkend Memorial Hall between 7.30 and 8.30pm.

West Dean parish council chairman Ian Hendy said councillors had already been consulted on the plans. "It is all about priorities. Obviously we will be responsive to local needs and we will make sure that where lights are necessary they will be retained," he said.

The schemes have been operating since February 2009 and savings of £202,760 have been achieved.
