BEING from the 'good old days' when lads had to do their bit for Queen and country, I served my time in the British Army of the Rhine in Germany which was then some 64,000 strong.

We were paid 28 shillings a week which was converted to deutschmarks at 12.5 to the pound.

When Europe took up the Euro the deutschmark was 3.5 to the pound, the pound being set at 1.66 Euros.

I can remember in my frequent travels getting 1.70 Euros for my pound.

We only get 1.20 to 1.25 now and business is complaining about how strong the pound is.

I am, like John Belcher, a committed European.

Now when I get my pension and listen to Cameron and his mates complaining about how much it costs, Mr Cameron should be reminded that they took from my earnings every week a third of my income.
