A REUNION for former members of Cinderford and District Swimming Club is planned for next month to celebrate 40 years since the club’s foundation.

Chair of the club, Ceris Westlake, said: “We’re hosting the reunion on Saturday October 21 for former members to celebrate our 40th anniversary.

“The club was established in 1977 and has 124 members, from learn-to-swim members to our thriving masters section. Over the years Cinderford has been able to welcome Olympians, including Sharron Davies and Steve Parry, to inspire the club’s swimmers.

“The club has been hugely successful both locally and further afield with swimmers representing Gloucestershire as well as qualifying for regional and national competitions.

“In addition to competing, the club has also organised two 24-hour swimathons, raising over £1,500 for Forest Pulse in 2016 and for Great Western Air Ambulance in 2017.

“Despite the huge amount of activity, Cinderford is still run solely by volunteers who give up their time to coach and organise all the club’s activities.

“Our swimmers are currently preparing for the United Bristol Cup, where Cinderford narrowly missed

the podium last year, as well as for competitions to qualify for the 2018 Gloucester County Championships.”
