A LYDNEY resident took the plunge in two different swimming pools to swim five kilometres on Sunday (May 15).

Tina Turley swam for two hours, completing 160 lengths, at Freedom Leisure in Lydney before moving to Bathurst Pool to swim a further 28 lengths. Her goal was to raise £1,000 for Bathurst Pool in Lydney to help them repair damage at the open air pool following vandalism in February.

Her friend, Sara French, says: “Tina was outraged when she heard about the damage to Bathurst Pool. She’s been swimming there since she was a child and she and her two children are regular visitors every summer.”

Tina’s goal was to raise £1,000 but Sara thinks she’s exceeded that figure already. She says: “Tina is tired but triumphant following her swim. If anyone still wants to donate they can contact me on 07889 005182.”

•Bathurst Pool is opening free-of-charge on Saturday, May 28 to thank the community for their support following the vandalism.
