THE first stage of the restoration of the swing bridge at Lydney Harbour was completed successfully yesterday (Tuesday) when the structure was moved to a nearby factory.

The bridge will be restored to full working order by Mabey Bridge at their Lydney works close to the harbour.

The restoration will allow sea-going yachts and motor boats to pass through the one mile stretch of canal that runs in land from the River Severn to Lydney.

The company estimates the work will take between 10 and 12 weeks to complete.

Mabey Bridge chief executive Michael Treacy said: “We are delighted to be involved in this worthwhile project.

“I’m confident that our staff will derive a lot of satisfaction from working on a project so near to home and we look forward to getting the bridge up and running again after so many years.”
