IN reply to 'Sourcing energy' (Review July 22) and a host of other eco energy letters, I must stress that so called Eco Warriors have never suggested that a single form of renewable energy is the answer to our energy needs.
Anyone who thinks deeply about this subject knows that instead of 'coal/oil/nuclear' we will need a plethora of much smaller systems to provide our energy.
Some of these will be feeding the national grid while others will be on a domestic basis. Wave, tide, biomass, wind, solar, air/ground source and hydro systems will give us the energy we need providing the government of the day has the determination to make them succeed.
At the end of the day the decision is simple ... do we want (not so distant) future generations to experience the running out of coal and oil together with possible catastrophies linked to nuclear waste (and there is still no guaranteed safe way to deal with this waste) or do we embrace alternative cleaner power sources which might be more expensive in the beginning but probably less so as technology improves? New ideas are always scary but we should take a deep breath and try them.
