I AM writing in reply to your letter 'Not safe in the woods.'
For a start was this lady born in the Forest of Dean?
When the lady screamed, and called her dogs back, did the boar hurt the dogs? No! She said they ran away, they were scared of her.
She says the boar have taken over the Forest, and make a mess on the sides of roads. They are only looking for food, they don't do this to annoy people.
I do agree that they should be kept down.
I am not a Forester, but if you take out all the wildlife – deer, boar, squirrels, sheep etc. What a rotten place it would be.
Boars: They dig for food. They have never hurt anyone. They do protect their young, as most humans do. But do you see boar muck on the side of the road? No! I have sat in the middle of 10 boar and they have not hurt me.
Now dogs: They bite people, some have killed sheep and babies. They muck all over the place for people to stand in. They frighten people, and they are taking over most picnic areas etc. Should these be thinned out, for they are worse than boars.
Sheep: Muck all over the place, lay on the side of roads to cause accidents, but they do keep the grass short.
Humans: Kill, frighten old people. They seem to be taking over the Forest with bikes etc. I have seen some doing their business on the side of the road. They are worse than the boar.
Why do boar confront people for, as you read in the Review, people do the worst thing, by feeding them.
If the boar are so frightening, why do people get out of their cars and walk over to take photographs of them.
Wildlife is a part of the Forest. If you don't like it, move!
