TIME was when Worrall Hill ruled the footballing roost in the Forest of Dean. It may take time, but don't dismiss the prospect that one day they may do so again.
"The club has not been in the best of health. A lot of things have happened up here but hopefully we are now on the right track," says manager Ian Dawson.
Dawson?
Now there's a Worrall Hill name to recall. In the golden days there was a Dawson in goal and now his son, Mark, pulls on the jersey. Manager Ian is another of the clan.
Mark's goal-keeping expertise kept Worrall Hill in the hunt and helped them to a satisfying victory over an enthusiastic Redbrook team which competed strongly until the end.
"They put some pressure on us in the second-half but Mark brought off a couple of really good saves," said Ian.
In his first year as manager, Ian has set himself the target of promotion.
"I know we are good enough. We have a squad of 16 or 17 players and the ability is here to play at a much higher level," he says.
"We have great facilities, among the best locally, and the pitch is outstanding. A few lucky breaks and we could bring some good football back to Worrall Hill."
Saturday's goal scorers were Jay Knight (2), James Brain and Andy Stacey while top performances came from Colin Morgan, James Brain and Richard Watkins.
To date Jay Knight is top scorer with an impressive 17 taken in league, cup and friendlies.
