THE Great SARA Duck Race on the Wye in Chepstow raised £1,000 for the Severn Area Rescue Association.

Ian Roberts, spokesperson for SARA, said: “1,000 plastic ducks were launched from the A48 bridge at 2pm and, on the incoming tide, completed the journey to the newly-refurbished Wye Bridge in about 15 minutes. A SARA lifeboat crew was on hand to identify the wining duck.

“The sunny weather was perfect for the race, which was preceded by three of the SARA Beachley lifeboats demonstrating the recovery from the River Wye of a ‘man overboard’. “We had a display of SARA vehicles and boats adjacent to the Boat Inn, where the barbecue was also very popular. All the ducks were safely recovered from the river by SARA crews, assisted by members of the Chepstow Boat Club.”
