AT the age of nine Kyri Ermoyenous has had her first taste of something most kids have regularly – a proper haircut.

But it wasn't just a trip to the hairdressers for the pupil of Ruardean Church of England Primary School, this was something special with the hair going to charity.

Kyri's hair was plaited into a 10-inch ponytail at school which was then cut off by her dad Mario surrounded by her classmates.

The hair will go the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair to cancer treatment.

Kyri's haircut is also raising money for Macmillan Cancer and so far she has donations totalling more than £650.

Mum Jenny said: "Kyri has had her hair trimmed to keep it tidy but this is the first time she has it cut.

In the last few years a number of our friends and family have been affected by cancer.

"When one friend began to lose her hair and decided to get a wig, Kyri asked a lot of questions about it and decided that when she had her hair cut she'd send it off to make a wig for someone.

"Because the Little Princess Trust only makes wigs for children, Kyri decided to also raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care."
