FOREST of Dean pensioner Pam Jones has pulled off the most amazing lucky break in the history of prize draws.
Miss Jones won prizes one, two and three to scoop an E-Type Jaguar valued at £18,000, a computer package worth £1,500 and a holiday for four in America.
AND, WAIT FOR IT, SHE HAS GIVEN THE LOT BACK!
The prizes have been returned to the Forest Fitness Centre at Cinderford and will be the star attractions in an auction of favours to be held later this year.
Miss Jones and her sister, Clarice, both attend the Fitness Centre and are great admirers of the work carried out there.
Every week they bought tickets in the build-up to the grand draw which was designed to give a major push to the fund-raising effort to enable the centre to build a new lifestyle fitness facility.
The couple say they are delighted with the wins, but they are so pleased with what is achieved at the centre they have returned the prizes so that even more money can be raised.
Clarice explained: "It's a truly wonderful centre. The trainers are all voluntary and no-one gets left out. They plan everyone's programmes so carefully and take great care.
"Pam had a bad back and bad knee but since attending the centre she has made great strides. It has really put her on the road to recovery," said Clarice.
"Every week Pam and I bought some tickets but we never really expected to win – though we are glad we did," she said.
The star prize, the classic E-Type, meant guessing the number of miles on the clock.
"We started at 12,000 and worked up every week. In the end we were just a 10th of a mile out at 111,000 miles. Yes, we do drive but an E-Type Jaguar is a little beyond us. We would need two walking sticks to get into it!" said Clarice.
The sisters say they are over 21 "and we might be over 70" but reckon they will be well rewarded by giving back their prizes which will make the auction, probably in April, one not to miss.
Fitness Centre coach Alan Elliott is delighted and staggered the prizes have been handed back.
"We can't believe their generosity. They don't want to travel to America and they say they have no need of a computer. It's quite wonderful for us and will give the fund a tremendous boost," said Alan.
The new centre could be open as early as next Christmas and will be the biggest of its kind in the West of England providing unique opportunities for athletes with learning and mental disabilities and taking medical referrals from all parts of the county from people needing rehabilition or recovering from illnesses and accidents.
