I READ with dismay that Lydney Town Council is expecting
the council tax payers of Lydney to top up their pension
fund to the tune of £150,000.00. Why should the people
of Lydney have to pay for the council's inability to manage
it's own pension fund? If you were working for a company
in the private sector, this would not be allowed.
It was my understanding that when the coalition
government took office that council tax was to be frozen
for a period of two years, which is what the district
council and county council are doing. I therefore question
the legality of what the council proposes.
All the people of Lydney should stand together and
refuse to pay the extra 25 per cent tax precept. Come on
Lydney council, we all have to tighten our belts and you
should lead by example. Stop bleeding the public dry.
You could save thousands if you had a unitary
council to cover Gloucestershire with one representative
from each town elected to sign in office.
