I AM writing to you about the write up headed "Toll subsidy not fair."
I was working in Avonmouth for a few months earlier this year, unfortunately I had to give up the job due to travel costs including toll costs.
After reading that Mark Harper was trying to justify the tolls which, incidentally are also crippling haulage firms, the revenue from both bridges per month is far in excess of £10 million.
The running costs per month come to about £1.5 million It has been said that if the toll was £1.50p per vehicle this would cover the running costs for both bridges – at present toll costs are cars, £6.20, goods vehicles up to 3500kg, £12.40, heavy goods etc over 3500kg, £18.60.
These prices are the most expensive tolls in this country. The Dartford tunnel charge for HGVs is only £5.00.
