OAP of Coleford is absolutely right about one thing: the UK has not actually left the EU yet.

That is why it is ridiculous for Brexit supporters to claim that the economy is doing well since the referendum and that the  dire warnings from the Remain camp have not materialised.

It is far too early for any meaningful analysis.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has already stated that no part of the UK’s contribution to the EU – the so called £350 million a week – will be spent on the NHS.

This money has been earmarked to support the farming industry and to replace the grants that the EU paid to regions of the UK, which of course will be lost when we leave.

As Europhile stated in his/her letter, immigration was the main reason why the electorate voted to leave the EU.

Just about everyone I know, who voted for Brexit confirms this.

Fear of foreigners and a ‘Little Englander’ mentality seems to have won the day – there was never

a convincing  economic reason to leave.

Eurosceptics in Westminster have always tried to make the case for sovereignty but to the average man in the street this was secondary to immigration.

The  Remain camp was completely let down in the referendum debate, by a Labour party in chaos, with an uncommitted leader and an arrogant pair of old Etonians in Cameron and Osborne who were totally out of touch with the electorate.

The fact that the British people voted for Brexit is irrefutable and democracy demands that we leave the EU.

Having said that, please don’t expect the 13 million who voted to remain, to roll over and die just because they lost on the day.

They will be putting pressure on their representatives to hold the government to account, every step of the way in their Brexit negotiations.

The triggering of Article 50, is not the end of the debate but the beginning.

We owe it to all the people working in the manufacturing industry who could lose their jobs as a result of leaving the EU.

Thankfully, Cameron and Osborne, who dragged us into the con trick of the century, have already lost theirs.
