A WELSH MEDIUM school which started out in 2001 ago with just 13 pupils has had a 10th anniversary present of top marks from independent inspectors.
Ysgol Gymraeg Y Ffin was opened in September 2001 then moved from the former Sudbrook Junior site to Sandy Lane, Caldicot, and now has more than 100 pupils from across south Monmouthshire, the Forest of Dean and even Bristol.
The Estyn inspectors described the school as a 'warm community' with a happy environment, an 'extremely inclusive ethos' and a place where 'older pupils conscientiously take turns when caring for the younger pupils'.
The inspectors said that both the school's current performance and its prospects for improvement were good, meaning the school has many strengths and no areas needing significant improvement.
Headteacher Mrs Diane Ebo said: "We are delighted with the report as it truly reflects the good learning that goes on in our school and it acknowledges how enthusiastic, motivated and well-behaved our pupils are."
Chair of governors Mr Mike Smith added: "The school has grown steadily in all areas over the last 10 years and I'm pleased the inspectors recognised the hard work of staff, pupils and governing body and the strength of our links with parents and the community."
