A WEDDING venue owned by cycling superstar Geraint Thomas and his wife Sara has scooped honours at a national awards night.

The couple fell in love with St Tewdrics House near Chepstow when they were looking for a place to hold their wedding, and bought and renovated it after marrying there in 2015.

And now it has scooped the East Wales and all Wales crowns for ‘New Business’ at the Welsh National Wedding Awards at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall.

The Italianate venue enjoyed another success with its catering team, Clever Chefs, taking the national award for “Outside Weddings”.

Because Geraint, 32, and Sara, 28, are based in Monaco, the day-to-day duties at St Tewdrics are carried out by her parents Eifion and Beth Thomas.

The business posted on its Facebook page: “We are so proud. This is such a big achievement for us as a venue and we can’t thank ev- eryone enough for all the support you have shown us. Thank you to all of our couples past, present and future on behalf of all the team at St Tewdrics House.”

Meanwhile, Geraint has been busy swapping his tales from the Tour de France on a tour to promote his new book, The Tour According to G, about his 2018 win in the world’s top bike race, which included dates in Chepstow and Monmouth and a seat on the couch on BBC 1’s The Graham Norton Show.
