CAN it be true that the Forest of Dean planning officers
imposed a height restriction on the new entrance tower to
the Co-op Superstore in Coleford?
If so, they have therefore rejected the following
ideas:
A dome in Co-op lime-green colours.
A minaret, Turkish style.
A clock, similar to Big Ben.
A pyramid, Egyptian design.
A belfry and real bell.
A spire, compared to Oxford.
A battlement turret with cannon.
An onion teardrop, Russian church design.
A pagoda, Chinese style.
A statue of David Mushet.
A concrete sheep, Forest of Dean style.
A 50ft statue of Mark Harper, MP.
Even a pit shaft winding wheel would be nice if
properly done.
Anything is better than the flat slab which is the
present Co-op carbuncle.
– Roderick Dingwall, Coleford.
