A HUGE wind turbine tower order from Germany will bring 24-hours-a-day working to Mabey Bridge in Chepstow and has already led to 45 new jobs plus a secondment of 50 staff from its bridge building operation.

The multi-million pound order to manufacture and supply 35 towers, ranging from 65 to 70 metres in height has been placed by international wind-turbine supplier Nordex.

Production of the 120-tonne tubular steel structures will start in mid-February with Mabey Bridge introducing 24-hours-per day working for the first time at its new £38m dedicated wind turbine tower manufacturing facility which is good news for the UK renewables and manufacturing industries. Around 170 staff will be working on the contract.
