CHEPSTOW has decided that the name of its new community hospital will be picked from the best suggestions in a public competition.
"During planning and construction the hospital has been referred to as Chepstow Community Hospital but it is now time to choose the name by which it will be formally known," says a Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust spokesperson.
The Trust is asking members of the public, staff and patients to send in their suggestions by October 8. A selection panel, which will include staff and patients, will make their final choice from all the entries received.
The spokesperson added: "The person who provides the name the panel chooses will be invited to the official opening and will receive a surprise gift."
The rules are: Your name must include the word 'hospital'; you can make as many suggestions as you like; if the selected name has been entered by more than one person, the winner will be picked from among these names at random; the closing date is Friday October 8 at 4pm, and entries received after that will not be considered.
Organiser of the competition Angela Cheetham Wilkinson said she had already had about 15 entries and staff at the present community hospital told her that suggestions there were "coming in thick and fast".
"I think I'm going to be pleasantly surprised by the numbers that respond," she said.
The hospital itself was nearing completion. "If you see it at the moment it looks as if we are just about to move in," she said. "But the actual opening will be early next year and the official opening will be sometime later than that."
Entries can be posted in a special box outside the shop near the main entrance to Chepstow Community Hospital, or they can be sent to Angela Cheetham Wilkinson, Grange House, Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital, Cwmbran NP44 8YN; or you can telephone Angela on 01633 623869
