MANY Caldicot residents are concerned about the flawed consultation process that has been undertaken by Monmouthshire County Council to set up the Caldicot town team.
The lack of consultation fundamentally undermines the public accountability of the proposed regeneration of Caldicot.
The proposed constitution, drafted by Eversheds costing £25k, was handed out at a meeting on April 29 giving people present 10 minutes to read.
There was insufficient publicity for the setting up of the town team which appears have been to only advertised on Twitter and Facebook.
Most residents of Caldicot were completely unaware of the proposed town team which aims to regenerate the town.
Monmouthshire County Council basically dropped the proposed town team and constitution onto the town with minimal consultation and publicity ignoring the elected town council.
Directors of the town team appear to have handpicked by Monmouthshire County Council with no public process of advertising and selection.
Regeneration is an important process. So something that benefits many of our communities works best when it is a process that works for the people rather than being done to them.
– Paul Weeks, Caldicot.
