With reference to the open letter from Paul Weeks in the Forest Review on June 18.

We as directors of the newly formed Caldicot town team agree with your opinions on the importance of engaging and consulting as widely as possible with the people of Caldicot.

The town team was formed as a result of disbanding the previous regeneration group and, at the outset, all previous members were written to and invited to join a group with a fresh perspective and energy to make Caldicot a great place to live, work and play.

We were excited to be the first town team in Wales and followed the model now quite popular in England. Unfortunately only three previous members responded to continue the work therefore we knew we needed wider support.

We held three separate public engagement sessions during October (two daytime and one evening session), as well as meetings with the town and county councils and other independent community groups and organisations as well as social media campaigns to seek input and further support in the new venture.

We commissioned Eversheds to help devise our constitution which sets out, legally and organisationally, how we will operate and comply with any appropriate legislation.

This investment of £2,500 is important to us as it will mean that we are set up correctly as an entity including the election of directors via a publicly held meeting.

This will now enable us to bid and secure much larger funding to redesign and reinvigorate Caldicot in a way that adds most value for the people of the town. We will continue to seek views and opinions from residents of the town by the same combination of open events, meetings and social media campaigns and welcome any input from individuals who have information about what's important to the people of Caldicot.

If you have any information that can help support our purpose or know of anyone who wishes to join or support us, please contact the town team via email: caldicottownteam @outlook.com or social networking sites, or by visiting any of the several local businesses who are already part of the team.
