A TRACTOR road run proved a bumper fundraiser for charity when 34 vintage vehicles took to the road.

Chepstow and District Vintage Club donated £1,000 to Kidney Wales after driving 28 miles in convoy from Caerwent through to Wentwood Reservoir and back.

The cash will help the charity open a Wellness Centre in West Wales, where patients can get treatment while on holiday.

Club spokesman Brian Stephens said: “The tractor run was a fun day that raised £600 and we added another £400 from previous events.

“We were joined by others from across the Severn Bridge and an early part of the route via Caldicot took in the entrance to the Severn Tunnel and Black Rock which some of our visitors hadn’t seen before.

“From there we drove up to Shirenewton and stopped for lunch at Argoed Farm, then onto Wentwood and back via the reservoir.”

The president, chairman and club members presented Lorraine Davis of Kidney Wales with the cheque.

Kidney Wales has worked towards helping kidney patients for more than half a century by funding research, providing equipment for dialysis units, setting up support groups and helping those struggling with the costs of treatment.

In December 2015, Kidney Wales saw the new law on organ donation come into effect after campaigning for eight years, a campaign led by the charity, which has seen an increase in organ donation.
