A WYE Valley driver who died when a car crashed into a tree early on Saturday morning (December 16) has been named.

Herefordshire Coroner’s Court heard that Nicolai-Cristian Gavrila, 31, from High Street, Ross-on-Wye, was at the wheel when the silver Ford Galaxy he was driving veered out of control on the A4110 near Leominster.

The inquest today heard he was declared dead at the scene of the accident on Brinshope Lane in Wigmore, which happened around 5.25am.

A woman and three men also travelling in the car were taken to hospital. there injuries are not thought to have been serious.

The inquest into Mr Gavrila’s death has been adjourned.
