IT'S all aboard for the trip of a lifetime this weekend when the historic Newnham-Arlingham ferry runs again, courtesy the Royal Marines.

For the two villages are being reunited in this once-in-a-lifetime event celebrating the millennium year, with a day-long packed programme of special events in both centres throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Music, entertainments, fair rides, shows and sports events have been organised to please both locals and visitors, and there are to be guided tours and special exhibitions, including archive pictures of the past.

A highlight of Sunday will be a fly-past by an RAF Dakota.

Many hours of work by many people have gone into organising the event which has been coordinated by Sue Dubois, Tim Orson, James Greenwood and Nick Bull.

Water interests include demonstrations and a hands-on try of water skiing organised by the Minsterworth Water Ski Club and coracle man Tim Oakes will be showing how the little boats work.

But taking pride of place will be the hovercraft service which the Royal Marines will be running between the two settlements, restoring a gone but not forgotten historic link across the lower Severn.

Special parking arrangements have been made so that visitors can flock in with ease yet keep the streets uncongested, and eating, drinking and entertainments go on late into the evenings.

The message to all is come along, and help make an already special event even better!
