SUPPORTERS of the trust set up to help Lydney's rugby club maintain its status as a National League side are celebrating their first year.

Organisers – Peter Watkins, Joe Betty, Steve Foster, Bob Wilks and Gordon Sargent – will host current and potential new members before and after Lydney's last home game of the season against top team Richmond at Regentsholme on Easter Saturday, April 23.

Spokesman Joe Betty said members of the trust h¢ad played a vital role in helping the club provide the town with National League rugby.

But, he said: "Continued support is very much needed to keep us there. The number of members we attracted during our first year was very pleasing, but we still need lots more to lend support and sign up. All contributions – whatever the amount – are vital to us whether monthly or as a 'one-off'."

Rugby manager Colin Henderson said the club greatly appreciated the assistance offered by members of the trust.

"At this level we struggle to compete against clubs with wealthy backers. The trust does a huge job and members help in lots of ways, not just financially," he said.
