IT was very much a case of Two Rivers when tenants of the housing association suffered two successive leaks that left them without water pressure for nearly three days.
Tenants in 22 flats in Leaze Court, Lydney, first had to put up with trickling supplies for a day and a half when a pipe cracked, sending water streaming across the car park and pavement.
And no sooner had the problem been ‘fixed’ at the Mount Pleasant complex, but the system sprang another leak just yards away.
This time, the water was forced up through the join between the pavement and the forecourt, as residents again faced having no hot water or being able to flush the loo.
A mum with a baby and three other children to look after said she first heard the water gushing outside her flat at 2am on Saturday morning.
“I got up to feed the baby, and I could hear it clearly,” said the tenant, who didn’t want to be named.
“ I looked out of the window and saw water streaming across the car park onto the pavement.
“They finally came to fix it on Sunday afternoon, and did the job quickly, but then about 9pm it sprang another leak.”
A waste water team from Severn Trent arrived on Monday morning, but couldn’t deal with the problem as it was a clean water issue.
Engineers arrived around 7.15pm that evening and dug up part of the forecourt with a JCB to fix the problem, finishing around 9.30pm.
“It was right outside the flat window, so it was a bit noisy,” said the mum. “But at least we’ve got the water fixed now, even if it took most of three days.
“It was a real nuisance, as we didn’t have any hot water to wash the kids or myself because there wasn’t enough pressure to fill the tank and we couldn’t flush the toilet.
“They dug the whole forecourt up only two years ago to repair it, and now this. It makes you worry that the tarmac might give way one day.”
