WE live in Lydney and I wish to ask if other people are getting a little miffed with Two Rivers and all their charges.
We get warned that if we don't keep gardens clean and tidy we can be evicted, but now the council want to charge to take our green waste away, making it harder for people to maintain their gardens.
We have a 'no man's land' behind our garden in which trees grow and take all the sunlight away. In the past we have maintained these trees and kept them cut back for safety reasons but now if we cut them back we will have to pay charges to get rid of the branches.
Now tenants are being charged to have grass cut and we have no option but to pay.
Then Two Rivers decided to see what residents wanted to do with the grass verges. The majority I have spoken to want them taken away to enable a wider road to be made for parking.
Two Rivers say the majority voted for a reduced cost and service, so now we have knee high grass we have to walk through to get to our car. Some people have cut the grass but Two Rivers have asked us not to because of health and safety. What are we meant to do? Will Two Rivers compensate us for ruined shoes?
I am told Jubilee Road will get two cuts a year. Can Two Rivers tell me if this is acceptable and can we maintain our gardens just twice a year in which case our hedges will grow over the pavement and meet with the grass verge.
Jubilee Road was once a nice-looking road but it is now no better than the Bronx with grass growing out of control. Visitors make comments about how the road looks.
We should be able to take action against Two Rivers for unacceptable standards and replace them with an organisation that takes pride in their areas. I'm sure they would give a better service if they had competition.
I've said many times that if they stop charging us for grass cutting we would gladly take the job of cutting and removing the clippings ourselves. At least then we would have pride in our street once again instead of being ashamed to bring people to the house and have to listen to comments about how awful and unsightly the road looks.
For some people it may not be a lot we pay for grass cutting but for pensioners and others it is. We are not pensioners and are fit enough and able to cut the grass but begrudge paying for a service we do not receive.
Twice a year is unacceptable and parking bays would be more suitable. We wouldn't mind paying then. That way it would be fair – if you drive you pay for a space but if you don't drive you don't pay.
