Gloucestershire League Divisiopn Two

Bream 92, Westbury 0

BREAM have emerged from the ashes of rugby's basement to proudly take their place in the County League's Division 1 next season.

It has been a remarkable rise for a club which once looked down and out. Bolstered by the arrival of a number of experienced old hands from Lydney, it was a case of instant revival for the Foresters.

By any standards they have enjoyed an outstanding unbeaten run. However, to make their season complete they would love to win the Combination Cup and to do so they have to overcome Berry Hill United at Berry Hill on May 2.

Westbury proved easy meat. It was always going to be a mountain to climb for them and afterwards they won praise from Bream player-coach Brett Scriven who congratulated them for turning up — not all Bream's opponents have done that this season.

In an overwhelmingly one-sided match Tai Lakabuka scored a club record seven tries while Dan Hardy weighed in with two tries and an amazing 11 conversions to take his total points for the season to 383 in league and cup. Bream's other tries came from Matthew James, Tristan Wilson, Pete Ball, Pete Pritchard and Sean James.

There were many positives for Bream. Andy Cooper did well at the line-outs and Jimmy Roberts was outstanding jumping at number two and at carrying the ball. Both Matthew and Sean James enjoyed strong games and Rob Byett was impressive with his throwing in.

The whole front-row went well, with Pete Ball the outstanding player. Brett Scriven made run after run into the heart of the Westbury defence and his carrying has been very much a feature of softening up defences this season.
