POOR weather forced Drybrook Allotment and Leisure Gardeners’ Society inside for their annual prize-giving and barbecue.
Normally held at their allotment site on Morse Road in Drybrook, the society had to relocate to Ruardean Village Hall when the weather deteriorated.
Society vice-chair, Mike Wilks, was on hand to present the winners with vouchers for the best kept plot competition.
In the single plot category, the winners were Jill Trotman and Lois White. In the double plot category, Ali and Helen Thackway won first prize, with Mike and Yvonne Bevan as runners-up. In the multiple plot competition, Dave and Sue Scrivens were the winners, with Ian Boundy and Sharon Sadler as runners up.
Mike said: “It has been another highly successful year for the society with improvements to the site and new tenants. We have also been involved in the organisation and success of the annual open show at the Ruardean Carnival in August.
“We currently have a full site, however, we always welcome potential tenants onto our waiting list.
“We made a special presentation to Janet Phelps, one of the founding members and former secretary of the society, who has hung up her wellies after many years on the allotment site.”
