THE Monmouth branch of the Labour Party is getting behind a campaign to ‘pause and fix’ the introduction of the Universal Credit benefit.
At its lively December meeting, members were told about the planned introduction of Universal Credit to the area in the middle of 2018.
Members were also told about problems with the ‘roll out’ of Universal Credit – which combines six existing benefits – in other areas.
It was claimed the problems had led to people not having enough money to pay for essentials such as food and rent.
The first local action will be a street stall near the Monnow Street traffic lights in the centre of Monmouth from 10am.
