A PENSIONER who has lived all his life in the same village has been honoured for his service to his home community.
The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, Charles Martell, formally recognised the contribution Roger Cox has made to May Hill with a special presentation of a certificate and ceremonial mug acknowledging his great and valuable service.
The 76-year-old has taken an active role in the life of the village for decades, including serving on the committee of the village hall, acting as treasurer and custodian “for more years than anyone can remember”.
As an active member of the congregation of the chapel, he has also raised untold funds through growing and selling box seedlings.
A keen walker, Roger has strolled hundreds of miles delivering the monthly village newsletter and has worked tirelessly maintaining the public rights of way around May Hill.
The High Sheriff said: “This award is well deserved and serves to recognise the quiet contribution of stalwarts in the community such as Roger.”
Roger was presented with his award in his noteworthy knot garden – a well loved feature of May Hill.
