AN inaugural vintage tea party helped raise more than £1,500 for Great Oaks Hospice.

Organiser Debbie Hutchinson said the day within the grounds of Berry Hill Rugby Club was so successful it would look to become an annual event.

She said: “The feedback has been absolutely fantastic. Vintage cars lined the field, the local Lindy Hop group came along in their finery and danced all afternoon to the fabulous swing, jive and rock ‘n’ roll music played by Pete Stead DJ.

“There were sack races, egg and spoon and sprinting races as well as traditional fair games which everyone loved. The afternoon teas were so popular that there was a queue all afternoon for them. Various stallholders brought their wares to sell too.

“Mo and Peter the Donkeys came along to give rides, and there was music. It really was a fabulous community day and we are already being asked if we can make it annual event.

“I really would like to thank so many people who put so much time and effort in to helping make the day so fantastic. Here’s to the next one.”
