THE Forest Sensory Services support group is looking for volunteers who may be able to make a difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people in the Forest.

They are now recruiting people to spend a few hours a week with service users for up to six months.

Jenny Green, manager of Forest Sensory Services, said: "Volunteers will make a very real difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people, learn new skills and give something back to the community."

Volunteers are asked to spend two or three

periods a week for three to six months with a service user, making trips out to activities that the pair will agree at the start of their relationship.

Journeys could be to the shops, to a café or maybe a sport event, any activity the service user wants to take part in.

As the service user grows in confidence it will be the volunteer's role to train some of the people they come into contact with, maybe club members or family and friends, so that it will be possible to provide support in the future.
